Hi everyone,

David here. As we transition to Fall, I'm excited to share some updates and opportunities in the world of Trauma-Sensitive Mindfulness (TSM).

1. TSM and Internal Family Systems (IFS) - A Free Online Event

On Wednesday, November 13th, from 9-10am PT, I’ll be hosting a free workshop on TSM and Internal Family Systems (IFS). I’ll be joined by IFS expert Govinda Bader, MFT, an amazing IFS teacher who has trained extensively with Richard Schwartz (the founder of IFS) and brings a wealth of experience to our discussion.

IFS is a therapeutic approach that views the mind as consisting of multiple parts, each with positive intentions. I've found this framework highly supportive for TSM teachers (myself included), and I'm excited to explore it with you. In this workshop, you'll learn:
  • Methods for gently approaching traumatized parts in TSM work without overwhelming students or clients
  • Techniques for accessing the calm, compassionate "Self" even in challenging moments
  • Ways to integrate IFS concepts into TSM practices for enhanced safety and efficacy
I'll share more details next month, but wanted to give you an early heads-up. Please save the date (Wednesday, November 13th, 9-10am PT) and don't worry if you can't attend live—the recording will be made available.

2. Available for Pre-order: The Trauma-Sensitive Mindfulness Workbook

I'm excited to share that The Trauma-Sensitive Mindfulness Workbook is now available for pre-order! This workbook consolidates key insights and best practices for TSM into one comprehensive resource.

Inside, you’ll find:

  • Practical exercises, scripts, and real-world applications for TSM
  • Chapters on TSM in relation to MBSR, MBCT, Mindful Education, and Psychedelic Therapy
  • Step-by-step guidance for ensuring mindfulness practices are trauma-informed
For those who've completed our online training, it offers a handy reference in book format, plus new specialty chapters on TSM applications. You can learn more about the workbook (or pre-order it) now here.

3. Daylong TSM Retreat at Spirit Rock: Expand Your Window of Tolerance

On October 19th, from 10am-3:30pm PT, I'll be leading a retreat at Spirit Rock Meditation Center titled "Expand Your Window of Tolerance: A Trauma-Sensitive Mindfulness Retreat." This is a unique opportunity for me to guide practices directly, and perfect for both lay practitioners and professionals interested in experiencing TSM firsthand.

The retreat is available both online and in-person (with Continuing Education Credits offered), and you can register here.

4. The Politics of Trauma 2.0 with Staci Haines

Many of you have asked about opportunities to learn from Staci Haines, a popular teacher in our online TSM training. I'm excited to share that Staci is offering a new online program: "The Politics of Trauma 2.0 - Embodied Transformation in Times of Polarization, Grief and Overwhelm." Running from October 8th, 2024 to January 28th, 2025, the program includes powerful live sessions, inspiring interviews, practice videos, and somatic coaching circles.

You can learn more about Staci's program here.

5. 2024 Compassion in Therapy Summit (Free Event)

Lastly, I'm honored to be participating in the 2024 Compassion in Therapy Summit, a free online event produced by the Awake Network. The summit runs from September 24th-26th, and features an impressive lineup of speakers including Gabor Maté, Richard Schwartz, Kristin Neff, and Dan Siegel.

This event offers 14 CE credits for psychologists, counselors, MFTs, and social workers, and you can register for the free summit here.

As always, I'm deeply grateful for your engagement with TSM and your commitment to this important work.

Warmly,

David

P.S. Today is my Grandma Beatrice's 100th birthday! She's lived an amazing life, has really supported my work, and I wanted to celebrate her. Here is a picture of her a few years ago with my brother and niece. :)
